I got a Scorpion Toadfish Today!!

Hi all, I got a Scorpion Toadfish today, he is so cool.

Anyone else have one??

He has one bad eye, so we call him One Eyed Willy. As soon as we put him in, the CBS grabbed ahold of One Eyed Willys lip and wouldn't let go. Since then, they are friends and sharing a cave! I will have lots of pics shortly, we did some re-scaping of the rocks, so the water was not the clearest, will take some shortly!

Also--I am not sure who gave me this advice, I wish I could give you credit, but I was complaining that I STILL don't have any coraline anywhere. Someone told me to get a small piece of LR from LFS and shave off the coraline and put that in the tank. It's in there now, we will see how it turns out!!!

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: I got a Scorpion Toadfish Today!!

Alright! Here are the pics, hope that wasn't to long to wait. Here is One Eyed Willy!

I do have to say--The tank was still pretty cloudy from moving stuff around, so the pics... aren't the best, and my good camera that takes a little bit better pictures is at work. So anyways, here's what I can work with as of right now!!

It's very hard to get him in a full shot, so these shots are odd, with some only his backside and some just front, but I wanted to show his markings and such!

Ok here is his side with the good eye--

Body, his body is kind of shaped like a tadpole really

And the reason his name is One Eyed Willy! Poor guy's eye is gone, has been like that for months (he has been at lfs for a little over 3ish months) PS! His mouth is so huge! If you look from his eye, follow his white stripe, to that "spike" thats how far back his jaw is!! It's nuts

Re: I got a Scorpion Toadfish Today!!

I saw something like that at the lfs near me. They were atlantic scorpion fish. Funny, the ones I saw had eye problems too. I didn't buy one because I didn't know what they were or how big they got. Good thing I didn't ! The atlantic ones get very large.......will eat anything that will fit in their mouths.....and have a poisonous spine located at the top near the dorsal fin.

Here's a pic of the ones I saw....not quite the same in looks.....

I hope your scorpion isn't anything like those Stace !

He is a very interesting character. Yes he is poisenous. His front dorsel fins are.

There is not much online about them, the ONLY site I could find somewhat useful info before I bought him was on Wet Web Media.

He is very neat!! Oh yeah---and they croak! NOT DIE! They croak, to call for their mate, I cant wait to hear it. I have the camera next to the tank ready at all times to video tape if I ever hear it. Supposedly you can.

Re: I got a Scorpion Toadfish Today!!

Hey EMG he is not an Atlantic. He is known to get about 8 inches. He is only about 5 inches.

Even the Horseshoe crab came out to say hello, he hasn't been out in a month!

Thats a really cool fish! Their mouth reminds me of a groupers mouth. Anything that fits in there is food.

Thanks for the pics! Well done!

Cool!!

and yeah, I was gonna say about the horseshoe crab... is that a cooler tank? I have to go check out your chronicle thread now to see about that crab... love those, I remember coming across them every so often when we would go down to Sea Isle City for vacations every year when I was a child.

Re: I got a Scorpion Toadfish Today!!

You know what Kim. You made me realize something! I don't have a chronicle thread on here, just on the past site. I will have to get on putting one together on here.

No my tank is not a cooler tank. I do have to admit... that the horseshoe crab was my first (and only I will add) tank mate that I did NOT research. After I got him home, yup I researched and learned they need cooler temps I slowly lowered my temp over a 2 week period of time, about 1 degree a week, and he is doing wondreful!! Very proud of him
