Powder blue tang and friends.

I was wondering if a 125 gallon reef tank was suitable to house a powder blue tang. I am aware at how delicate this fish is so also could anyone suggest some tankmates.

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

What are your tank dimensions. These fish love to swim, and they also love strong surrents. PBT are very aggressive, so they should be the last fish added. As long as you add your more sensitive fish first, a PBT can be kept with just about anything IMO>~Michael

The dimensions of the tank are 72Lx18Wx24H What do you think will compliment the PBT in the aquarium as gar as colors go and size

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

Personally I like to have one or two large fish and several smaller fish.
I am very fond of anthias, but they require more advanced care.
I guess it depends on what type of fish you enjoy. Do you like cryptic fish such as gobies, and blennies. Or do you like fish that swim ou in the open.
I love wrasses as well. Personally my favorite fish is the Bluespot Jawfish. I have one in my 100 gallon. He has the most personality, and is everyones favorite fish. I had my PBT in with my Jawfish. I know this sounds funny but they were actually friends. The jawfish would actually swim arounf with the tang. Go with what you like>~Michael

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

Thanks for all of the help. By the way how many inches of substrate would you reccomend for jawfish and how many could I keep in my tank?

I have a powder blue with a Sailfin, orange shoulder, hippo, puffer and naso tang. I have the same tank as you. He was the first fish in the tank. He is aggresive toward other blue fish. He gave the hippo some grief for awhile but realized he was a different type of fish. If I put an achilles or similar fish in, it would be a death match. You never know how fish will react. It is always good to have a second tank if things get out of hand. Good luck.

On that note do you think I could keep a Powder blue tang with a powder brown tang. I thought It would be an interesting blend of colors.

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

The reccommended sand depth is around 5 inches. I currently only have arounf 3 inches in my 100 gallon "Jose" that is my BSJF's name, doent seem to mind at all. I have had him for about 10 or 11 months now.
In a 125 gallon tank you could only have one, or a mated pair. They are aggressive toward other BSJF.

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

As far as mated airs go do they actually produce eggs that hatch? I am assuming that when the eggs hatch the fish is in larva form?

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

It is unlikely a powder brown tang would get along with a powder blue. They are to similar. Try something different in shape and size in the tang family like a sailfin tang.

Re: Powder blue tang and friends.

How do you think the Powder Blue Tang would react with the yellow tang. They grow to a similar size.
