Re: 4th fish in a 24 gallon.....

You are about at the bioload limit. Perhaps a Neon goby or Yellow Clown goby. The Neon goby will give you some blue.

Re: 4th fish in a 24 gallon.....

I agree with Scott. 24 gallons/5 gallons per inch = 4.8" of full-grown fish if you have no water displacement from rock or sand.

You have 6" of clownfish + 2" of goby = 8" Nearly doubled the recomended bioload for that size system before you add your fourth fish.

Too many fish can lead to:
increased fish stress, disease, and death;
poor water quality which would inhibite coral growth and success; and
outbreaks of nuisance algae, to name a few things.

Re: 4th fish in a 24 gallon.....

I'll third the comment that you're already maxed out on bio-load. While the 1" of adult fish per 5 gallons is only a rough rule of thumb, (obviously, 1-6" fish is much more bio-load than 6-1" fish) it's pretty accurate over the entire aquarium spectrum.
Sadly, this is the big problem with nano-tanks...you really can't have much for fish in them. It's what keeps me from setting one up. I'd rather have NO operating tanks than to have to settle for one I wouldn't enjoy. (the hobby was always more about the fish than the living decorations (corals) to me.)
Since you already have one, I'd highly recommend making it a coral tank with maybe 1 small fish or 2 at the most. Maybe get rid of the clowns and get a nice pistol shrimp to pair with the goby.

Re: 4th fish in a 24 gallon.....

Then I would say have the tank with the pair of clowns by themselves.
I have a pair with a RBTA, peppermint shrimp and fireshrimp. The tank does great but I have a very good skimmer and lights and keep up on the water changes to get away with the bio-load.
I would not recommend the anemone for you at least not yet. They need a very established tank and strong lighting. I would add some soft corals and the clowns will frequently host in them.

Re: 4th fish in a 24 gallon.....

Do you have a skimmer?
If not it is important that you do weekly water changes of about 10%.
I wouldn't add any more fish but you can be successful with the 3 fish you have if you keep up on the WC. Time to add more coral

Oh I see you are still in the planning stages while your tank is cycling.
How much live rock do you have?

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

If you love the clowns, you could make the tank dedicated to a pair of clowns. Like Lynn said, you could eventually get an anemone and that would make for a beautiful display. In the meantime you could try a few soft corals that clowns will possibly host (mine hosts nothing in a tank of of softies.)

If your tank is still cycling, that is great that you are planning ahead! You can try different theories out and get feedback without hurting livestock (or your wallet!)

I see no problems with keeping four fish in that tank after the tank is mature and stable. Just remember to keep things slow when it comes to adding livestock.
