Skinny Sailfin & a trip to the market

I need to shop for some fish food today. My Pacific Sailfin looks skinny to me. I've been feeding nori daily, frozen krill. A little cyclopeze flake & variety cubes. The sailfin is eating just fine but but looks a bit thin.I did cut way back on feeding past few months trying to clean up high nitrates & HA. Are J Sprung's Reef Veggies considered a quality product? I intend to get some blood worm & I can get fresh fish, oyster etc but I want a good algae food. Also I'm looking at a long lost bottle of selcon. It spent some time almost a year in a kitchen cupboard. It doesn't smell bad. I assume I'm reaching here , Could it still be good? I'm mostly interested in the reef veggies. I'd appreciate any opinions on this product . Thanks.

Re: Skinny Sailfin & a trip to the market

go to the chinese market and get a big pack of nori...i get 50 sheets for $5.

then go to the grocery store. shrimp. scallops. salmon. cod. 1/4lb each.

go to walmart or party store. get mini ice cube trays.

chop the hell out the meats. snip up some nori. mix. smoosh into icecube trays. freeze. when frozen. plop into a freezer zippy bag....lotsa good eats.

Re: Skinny Sailfin & a trip to the market

The sailfin does looks like it could put on a little weight. I think I can step up on the food a little. There are only 2 fish in a 200gl. I have the nori & a variety fresh seafood is no problem. This batch I think I'll freeze up the ingredients separately. I'm afraid to use the selcon. Thanks for the insight!

Don't be afraid of the selcon. They are good vitamins and very beneficial. Two little fishies make good products IMO and I use their seaveggies in my mush (similar to Wittys). I use a wax paper sheet and a piece of eggcrate, mash the mush into the eggcrate and once it freezes you have perfect size squares.

Re: Skinny Sailfin & a trip to the market

Well I didn't make it to the fish market. Every Wing Nut In North East Florida ( all but one)is on the road right now! Good Lord it was traffic gridlock LMAO. I did make it to the grocery, I picked up some shrimp. cod , what they call Bay scallop which I think is skate or ray & some oysters. Interesting the oysters ae from Washington st! I intended to get "local" fresh stuff but there was no way I was going to fight that traffic! We have enough to get by. I hate buying seafood at the grocery. It's all pretty much imported. I have a little soaking in ro/di in the fridge. Should I pitch the old selcon? I assume it's lost a lot of it's nutritional value but could it be spoiled?

Re: Skinny Sailfin & a trip to the market

My LFS said to keep it refrigerated. It's food. I wouldn't take a chance with it. I'd pitch it and go buy a fresh bottle of it. I feed the Sea Veggies and I soak it in Zoe, Selcon, and Garlic. If you look towards the bottom of my chronicle you'll see my fat tangs.
