terelabrus rubrovittatus

I saw one of these earlier today. It is a very cool looking fish, does anyone have any info on it. Most of what I can find in Japanese.

Re: terelabrus rubrovittatus

its not japanese,,,they just get all the new fish first.

Quote:
Terelabrus rubrovittatus is described as a new genus and species of labrid fish from a 87-mm male specimen collected in 100 m off New Caledonia and a 32-mm juvenile from 92 m off eastern Papua New Guinea. This wrasse is distinct from all labrid fishes by the following set of characters: body elongate, the depth 6.2-6.3 in SL; head and anterior body cylindrical; eye large, 3.55-4.2 in head length; interorbital space nearly flat, 5.0-5.5 in head length; two pairs of large, well-spaced, recurved canine teeth anteriorly in each jaw; remaining conical teeth uniserial and small except for canine at corner of mouth; dorsal rays X,11; lateral line continuous and smoothly curved, the pored scales 42-43; and a distinctive red-striped color pattern.

Re: terelabrus rubrovittatus

I'm looking for info on this one as well. I rec'd one from a supplier last week and have been searching for info since. The one I have has bright yellow stripes rather then the white in the pic above. Here is the only info I have gotten so far. Seems to be a rare fish with a high price tag.

"very docile fish, doesn't like bright lights. some sleep in the rocks, some sleep in the sand. usually collected pretty deep and some suffer from decompression problems. the indian ocean ones fare much better (are mostly red & white, not red & yellow). feed a couple times a day, will jump if spooked. treat them like you would a Lined Dartfish or Curious Wormfish"

Re: terelabrus rubrovittatus

This fish lives at approx. 100-m depth. Three easy questions Michael:

1-how high is the Temperature in 100 m?

2-how high is the hydraulic pressure in 100-m-deep?

3-How long this fish can survive in an reef-aquarium?

Apart from the facts, a pretty fish (Wrasse).

Not everything what to us the Japanese demonstrate makes sense or even helps, neither for us people nor for the animals.
