| Reef Lobster | Blenny Dilemma Alright, as you guys know, i recently picked up a bicolor blenny. Well, prior to this, i had asked my lfs to watch out for a starry blenny for me. After 3-4 months of waiting, none turned up, so i finally gave in and picked up my bicolor. sure enough, THREE days later, they get three, nice small starry blennies in! anyway, the guy i deal with there said he'd hold the one i liked for me if i wanted to swap for him with mine, since he knew id been watching for them. I know i'll be able to catch my bicolor, no problem since his "home" rock is right at the top. What I need to know from you guys, is: Is there any reason I shouldn't make the trade? My worries would include: Personality differences? Hardiness? Rate of Growth? Does anyone else have a starry blenny? and if so are you pleased with it? Thanks everyone! Also, is there anyone that wouldn't take a starry over a bicolor? just curious ![]()

| Golden Moray | Re: Blenny Dilemma he Starry Blenny is also referred to as Snowflake Blenny. Its body is a mottled dark brown with white dots and its pectoral and tail fins are yellow. A well-established 30 gallon or larger aquarium with multiple swimming levels and plenty of rock is a suitable environment. It is not usually aggressive unless the tank mates appear to have a similar shape as it does. It is best to house singly unless kept in a larger tank and the two are a mated pair. It tends to perch and hop from rock to rock looking for microalgae to graze on. The Starry Blenny does best in well-established aquariums with large amounts of natural algae to feed on. The diet can be supplemented with vegetable matter, Spirulina, and herbivore preparations Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Aquariums: Starry Blenny

| Achilles Tang | Re: Blenny Dilemma I love my bicolor, he's deff my favorite fish. I looked at the link Catrina gave you and it doesn't look like they are similar in body shape at all. Did the LFS recommend that you NOT put them together? I have a Bi-color and a Scooter and they don't even notice each other. Why not have both?!?! Just a thought!!

| Reef Lobster | Re: Blenny Dilemma hey rebekah I've come to like mine as well, the only real difference is that the starry has a "sail" dorsal fin that spans the whole body. they didn't really say that, but I already feel like i shouldn't add any more fish. I would consider that possibility more if i could capture that darn chromis!

| Achilles Tang | Re: Blenny Dilemma I hear ya. Good luck catching that chromis. Try the soda bottle fish trap, I used it for my Blue Damsel and it worked like a charm. I tried to catch him for an entire week before I gave up and made the trap. Good luck!

| Reef Lobster | Re: Blenny Dilemma thanks for the input scott! i was thinking that for a bit, but maybe it's better to do it the reverse way... get the starry now, and a bi color again later, hah, now I can't decide! the starry is smaller than my bi color, whos a bit bigger than id like from the get go. I'll let you guys know what happens later today, since i'll be visiting the LFS either way if anyone else has an opinion please post away, i'm curious! ![]()

| Achilles Tang | Re: Blenny Dilemma Quote:
I put a rock inthe bottom and another close to the top of the bottle so it would lay flat on the bottom. Then I squirted in some mysis. Every fish in my tank was in there eating at one point or another. The Damsle only went in once though, so I had to pull him up with my Clarkii AND Scooter Blenny at the same time. They were all traumatized for an hour or so.
