Re: diamond goby

I have a Diamond Goby in my 90 gallon. He has been great!!! There are times when he goes missing in action, but he appears a few days later. He has a lot of character.

Re: diamond goby

I have one, and he keeps my sand sparkling white. Decides to re-arrange the tank now and then, but he is one of my favorites...

Re: diamond goby

These guys feed almost exclusively from the sandbed so a mature deep substrate is important until they adjust to prepared foods.

It's not going to get better it's what they do and it's not uncommon for them to spit sand all over your corals especially those placed on the substrate.

Re: diamond goby

I used to have one and really enjoyed it. It ate my homemade mush very well.

Re: diamond goby

I am considering either a Diamond or a Goldhead Sleeper...

Would like to know which one is better...and what are the pros and cons of either

Re: diamond goby

My substrate is a mix of arag live fiji pink, special grade, and a little crushed coral. It is 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep in some spots. so size ranges from .5-2mm and some larger pieces from the few pounds of crush coral i put in

Re: diamond goby

2455coop,

I find the Diamond Goby (Valencienna strigata) to be a busier substrate cleaner than the Gold Head Sleeper Goby (Valencienna strigata).

The Gold Head Sleeper Goby has the habit of scooping up some substrate in its mouth, then rising a few inches off the bottom of the aquarium as it sifts through the substrate. The effect is like falling snow. The substrate covers everything in the aquarium that is up to about 4 to 6 inches off the bottom. If you have any inverts, corals, and reef life, you don't want to invite one of these into your community aquarium. When the Diamond Goby sifts through the substrate, it remains on the bottom and doesn't spread the substrate over rocks, etc.

Under the proper lighting, that colored streak along side the head of the Gold Head Sleeper Goby is brilliant!

Re: diamond goby

I've also had both, and agree with leebca on the differences. I think the diamondback is a bit more hardy than the Gold Head upon introduction. However, once they settle in both are comparable in that regard.
