Tomato Clown not looking so good. .

I have a 24 gallon Aquapod, LR & LS the tank has been up for 3 months. I have had a Alge Blenny in for about a month, he is doing great. I had two clowns last month that died, I was over feeding them. Last week I added a Tomato Clown and a True Pecula to my tank. They were doing fine, but now the Tomato Clown is hanging on right up on the filter slots in the back of the tank, mouth opening and closing constantly, his fines are also constantly twirling in opposite directions and he is not eating. He looks fine, no spots, discoloration that I can see.

Any ideas of what could be going on with him?

Poor water (high ammonia, nitrites, and/or nitrates) or high temp? Please post the following:

temp?
salinity?
PH?
ammonia?
nitrate?

Better look at Nitrite too.

yeah, lets get the specs, overfeeding on a small new tank could really be throwing the cycling levels all over the place!!!

The other thing to look at is that clowns generally do not play well together unless they are a pair. The other ckown could be attacking or at least stressing the tomato.

possibility, is the perc bigger than the tomato, unusual that a perc would pic on a tomato, but if he's bigger he might be

Heavy breathing, typically, is a sign of gill distress. Ammonia and nitrite will both cause breakdown of gill tissue and affect breathing. There are also parasites that will attck the gills and cause heavy breathing. We really need to see your waters test results as stated above.

Re: Tomato Clown not looking so good. .

Just got back with my test kit and tested the water. Here are the results

PH 8.2
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 0ppm

additional info
Salinity 1.021
Temp 79 degrees

The fish are the same size, I have not noticed any either picking on eachother but I don't watch the tank all day.

In addition look for any signs of disease, like ich, velvet, or clownfish disease. If treatment is necessary, treat in a quarantine tank. Never ever medicate the main system.

Blue_Eyes .. I'm new to this, and I'm not sure what is meant by "air exchange".

I have a Maxi-jet 900 pump. There is a Y nozzle from the pump in the tank. I have one end positioned at the surface of the water and the other pointed towards the back of the tank. I was told by my LFS to position one on the surface to get more air in the tank.

That is exacly what she is talking about on the air exchange. The power head pointed at the top should do the trick. I would slowly raise the salinity to 1.025 since that is much closer to natural sea water but othet than than your paramaters look greatl

Re: Tomato Clown not looking so good. .

Kim, your water parameters look fine. I would follow Lynn's recommendations on increasing salinity. Since your clown appears to be the only fish effected, you may want to consider setting up a hospital tank and attempting to treat him separately. You never want to treat in your display tank. A bare bottom 10 gallon tank with a 2" pipe coupling (for the fish to hide in) would be about all you need. I'm sure that there are many folks who would walk you through it if you want to try. It would also remove him from the others which should reduce his stress and reduce the chance of your other fish from contracting what he has, if he's contagious.

For future reference, you really shouldn't have more than 1 clownfish per tank unless you know that you have a pair.

Re: Tomato Clown not looking so good. .

Thank you everyone for your advice, it is very much appreciated. I found ole tomato dead this morning. The other clown is looking good, a bit lonley, but good. I'll wait a couple of weeks to see how he turns out before I introduce another to the tank.
