| Torch coral | Blennies vs. Gobies (look the same to me) Hello everyone, I saw a watchman blenny (yellow) at the LFS and then I saw a picture of a goby online and they look really similar to me? Whats the difference as far as character, feeding, where they like to live, etc? The Blenny seemed to live in a cave between sand and LR at the LFS. Is one species considered to be a cleaner? thanks. |

| They misunderestimated me ![]() | Re: Blennies vs. Gobies (look the same to me) It was probably a yellow watchman goby at your LFS that was mislabeled. I'm not aware of anything with the common name watchman blenny.

| Over Achiever | Re: Blennies vs. Gobies (look the same to me) These two species are superficially, very similar. Gobies generally have fused pectoral fins that form a cup that they use to prop themselves up on and to grasp vertical walls. Blennies generally have a continuous, long dorsal fin that runs the length of the body to the tail. Blennies also have projections called cirri, on their head, that the gobies lack. Some of the gobies are cleaner fish. What you describe is a Yellow Watchman goby. |

| Torch coral | Re: Blennies vs. Gobies (look the same to me) Ok ok, I bet the LFS had it labeled correctly and I am the one who just forgot what it said after typing each name in so many searches! haha. Thanks for the info. They seem really neat, little diggers and making their own little mounds in the bed of the tank. |
