| Limpet | black damsel?(no spots) I have a large damsel in my tank that is dark blue in color and 4.5 inches in length. I have not added any fish in over 2 years and never purchased a fish resembling this one. after trying to identify this fish the only thing close is a black damsel (mine being dark blue/purple)that changes color from juvi to adult explaining why I don't recognize this fish. it always hides until it swims out just long enough to beat on any other fish in its area of the tank(hence no pict.)I was wondering if anyone has this type of damsel or any picture so I can identify this fish? |

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: black damsel?(no spots) Without a pic, it's extremely difficult to ID your fish, but there are only a few "all black" damsels. Here are a couple of links with pics to peruse through, to hopefully help you with an ID: Damsels and I suspect your fish may be one of these: Pomacentrus aquilus Pomacentrus or from your description, less likely: Neoglyphidodon melas Neoglyphidodon And it's not unheard of (but not common either) to find a domino damsel without spots: Dascyllus trimaculatus Dascyllus

| Limpet | Re: black damsel?(no spots) thanks for the links boomer. sorry for posting a pic with this post still trying to get a shot. couple of things that I left out this damsel has large scale for a fish its size that cover his head and gills as well as body, also no color or marks other then the dark blueish purple other then inside the mouth is white. I found another link that is leading me to assume that it might be a giant damsel. will post pic as soon as possible. heres the link its helpful to identify damsels http://www.fishbase.org/identificati...=350&areacode= |

| Golden Moray | Re: black damsel?(no spots) Unfortunately, your link doesn't seem to work. If we knew the fish you had in the tank 2 years ago, we could probably tell you which damsel it was. Four that immediately come to mind are the blue devil, velvet, jewel, and domino. Four and a half inches is really big for a damsel and it is unlikely that any will look the same as an adult as they did as a juvenile. That is why I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to convince my family that I need to remove the two residual ones I have in my tank. I would gladly donate them to a local public aquarium.

| Limpet | Re: black damsel?(no spots) Ok I finally got a blury pic of the damsel you can see the size of its scales and they are even on its head, its growth slowed down its about 5" now and hides 23.5/7, its very fast hence the blur. [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG] |
