Unhappy Yellow Tang not looking good

All of a sudden, like yesterday, my yellow tang started not looking good. I will try to get a pic if he makes it till tongiht.
I wasnt too worried wednesday cuz he was still full of energy and eating, but last night he looked worse and food did not even interest him. He was swimming/floating aimlesly and this morning he was laying on the sand bed, i thought he was dead went to scoop him and he swam off, but im very worried.

No signs of ick, but he does have Red lines on him, they look like his veins popping through and the red is very pronounced where his spine it, up under the dorsal fin.

This sound like anything, ive never heard of red veins, but im very worried

Re: Yellow Tang not looking good

I am sorry to hear about your fish. Hopefully he perks up. You may want to contact the fish doc. = Fishdoc.co.uk ~ I am not sure if he's any good. But, he did have some responses to the symptoms you described. Good Luck!

Unfortunately fishdoc seems to be all freshwater fish. Cool site though.
I wish I could help, but this one is new to me. Hope the tang recovers.

Don't be sorry. It is actually a cool reference site. I read quite a bit that I didn't know and I only skimmed through part of it.

Re: Yellow Tang not looking good

Took me a bit to find it, but...

Yellow Tangs - Zebrasoma Flavescens

"Opportunistic bacteria will readily reproduced in this food rich environment. As the numbers of bacteria in the water multiply, so does the likelihood of microbial infection. Be on the alert for red or pinkish streaks and faded colors that can indicate a bacterial infection (most often vibriosis). "

Re: Yellow Tang not looking good

Have you done any tests ? How are the nitrate levels ? From what I remember you were using an ASM skimmer, has it been working well ? How often are you doing water changes ? Have you noticed any cloudiness in the tank or is it crystal clear ? When I read your PM I was thinking dietary but reading Terry's article if may be water quality issues.

Re: Yellow Tang not looking good

water quality is great and clarity is better than it has ever been. i rechecked water params when i noticed him in this condition and:
ph:8.2
ammonia nitrites and trates and phosphates all 0

i was just at my LFS buying ro water and was talking and one of the guys, mentioned a Fluke that can cause reactions like this. He gave me a medication to dose 5 gallons with as a last ditch effort if the tang is still alive when i get home

Re: Yellow Tang not looking good

Glad to hear he is doing well.
What a mystery. Hopefully whatever was wrong doesn't come back, but at least you have the medicine to try if it does.

Good to hear that your fish is doing well! You have much better luck than I do... Usually a sick fish means a "soon to be dead fish" for me
