I was wondering what methods you guys use. do you use traps? if so what kind or can you make your own. I have seen a couple of traps for sale buth they want 30 bucks for a jar with a funel top and I dont know if it will even work. thanks

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: netting fish Try puting some food in a net and letting your fish feed a few times out of your net, it will only take a couple of times until they are used to it, then you can put the scoop on the fish your trying to catch.

| Hey!Its not my fault ![]() | Re: netting fish I use a trap. They are expensive and very well worth it. When I moved and had to catch about 20 fish it was almost effortless..... The trick is to not feed them for a few days. Bait the trap with food and use something long with a handle to shut the trap door. If you try shutting it with your hands they are gone as soon as they see your hand... I would shoot food in the tunnel with a turkey baster and shut the door with the tip of the baster as well. Very very slick.

| Acropora | Re: netting fish I just trapped a fish ! I built a plain ole box trap out of acrylic scraps. I had to make a few changes in design and it took a while to get the fish used to it but it worked! I kinda copied a trap I saw here. Miss Woodstock posted a good pict somewhere. The acrylic was easiest to work with but I think any larger clear plastic container would work. The trick is to design a trap door that will close quickly and to keep the food in the trap.so the fish have to enter it. Again it takes a while for the fish to get used to the trap. And I bet the fish you want is the last one to enter it! What type of problem fish are you wanting out? Also draining the tank works well and I understand most corals will be ok if exposed for a short while. |
