It is a way of rewarding people for good posts. It is also a way of telling how experienced someone is when they post. People will generally rely more on advice if given by someone with a lot of karma.

I was wondering more about how the number is figured. Does the number depend on the person giving you the good karma?

Judging from how my Karma changes with each addition... I'm thinking maybe it's more like 5%. But I don't know...

I give karma for niceness, newness,funnyness, helpfulness, friendlyness and knowledge. guess I'm not following the rules.

Thank you Rhonda. You are always so sweet.
There are no real rules. Just the general concept. I also give karma as a hello or sympathy. Good wishes for a sick fish or coral is alsow a frequent reason. Oh and good pics get my attention a lot as well.
Lots of reasons to give karma. Plus it's just fun.
