Unhappy Disappointing.

I asked you all for a favor to spend a little bit of time adding to the knowledge at ReefPedia.

And of our 3,192 members, who posted over 1100 times this week, I have had all of one person actually respond aside from moderators.

Now, maybe there's some confusion- I'm not asking people to write full articles here. The idea is that we work together to create something I find potentially as important as you all find ReefSanctuary. A couple of sentences... a fact... the color of a fish... that's all. We're not talking about anything that would take you more than a minute or two.

Now, if there's a problem with the way it's set up... or maybe you're not sure how to do this, that's fine... let me know. I have set up an entire forum here just for questions regarding this site.

I have to tell you, I'm feeling pretty disappointed right now. Maybe many of you don't realize how much time I dedicate to making ReefSanctuary tick, day in and day out, and to improve it and make it a great place for everyone to spend time. Because if you did, certainly, you wouldn't think a couple of minutes of your time was too much to ask.

Re: Disappointing.

Hey Travis,
I haven't forgotten my offer, I have been putting pen to paper first and then look out...hopefully I will have some added info.
Have I mentioned the addiction to RS...I have to check while at work, on break, phone, laptop while in the car and pda.
Thanks
Debbie

Re: Disappointing.

WOW! this is my second post!!...not to be seen here!

Ok, I know I'm supposed to do an article on "building material and the in wall tank".... It's all I can do to stay on top of the ever constant crap that is life...but, I promise it will happen.
For the rest of you....,... get off your arses

Re: Disappointing.

I know you are anxious to get this off the ground but.....patience. This is reefkeeping after all and reefkeeping mantra says "nothing good happens overnight".
I have actually popped in and I did a small amount of editing. I plan to help write an article sometime I just keep getting sidetracked by other things.

Re: Disappointing.

Thx Forestal and Woody. I cleaned it up a lil' bit, but that's fine... it's the content that's important.

Reefjitsu, your advice is sound. I just kinda feel like I've been banging my head against a wall all week.

Reefjitsu, Kim, Olivert- Full articles are great but not necessary at all. A wiki is a community just like a forum... just as you aren't expected to write an entire thread by yourself, same applies to wikis. If you view an article there as a thread, and any edit you make as a post, you're on the right track.

I've made starting a new article as easy as possible with the "EZ templates" system I created... click on "fish profile" or "coral profile" and the formatting is done for you (and remember, don't feel the need to "finish" it).

I have also failed to emphasize what an asset this can be for ReefSanctuary. Yes, I know it's a different site at a different URL. But you can trust me on this... it's there largely for the benefit of RS. So if you're looking for a way to give back to the community here, please, consider taking a couple minutes to add to the knowledge there.

Re: Disappointing.

Travis,

I am new to the site as of Friday night / Sat. morning 3:30 AM (and the hobby for that matter - had a tank running only since Thanksgiving) but I can tell you that I certanily appreciate the effort you have put into the site!! I will do what I can to contribute, although as a neophyte I certainyl don't want to give out wrong info. Be patient and I'm sure the new site will grow and grow... I'm heading over there now to see what it's all about and rest assured there are lots of us who really appreciate what youve done here at RS!!

Re: Disappointing.

Travis,
I added some info on the Dusky Jawfish since I own one and know a little about them.
Could you please add a picture of one for me?
I hope what I did is ok, I was unsure if I was doing it right or not!

Re: Disappointing.

Thanks Gina!

Actually the page for dusky jawfish would be in the category "Jawfish" (the category is listed in the main page) so I added "[[Dusky Jawfish]]" into that category page, then saved, clicked on the now-linkified "Dusky Jawfish" and pasted the article you did into it.

So now it goes Fish-->Jawfish-->Dusky Jawfish

It's here.... http://www.reefpedia.com/index.php/Dusky_Jawfish

I'll see if I have a pic... is Dusky Jawfish the same as a pearly Jawfish?

BTW if anyone wants to see what other people are doing, from the home page, click "recent changes" in the menu.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~
