I couldn't lay my head down and sleep at night if that were the case. But I have been in the Anti-Spyware/Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus business a loonnnggg time. I got my first IT Anti-Virus certificate (for finding, identifying and eradicating) about 17 years ago on a PLC Programmer.

It's a shame it's such a BIG business but it is so I do what I can to help as many people as I can.

I am constantly playing or working on my Pix Firewall as well as never ending software updates to combat this issue. Last time I remember looking @ the number of lines of code in the FW I had some where near 300K lines to defend it from this sort of attack. Anti-Spam software works really well to. Well ok it helps

i have multiple books on the topic of bot creation. Though I was playing with it for a very very different idea

i was tired of searching through forums and forums of data, so i was planning on having the bot do the search for me over several forums and bring back its findings..

but I decided to be nice to the bandwidth limits of forum hosts

Man that's some pretty intensive "forum info" data collection. Yes BOTS aren't complex but you'd have to want a LOT of data on a particular topic to invest the time and efforts to set up your bot(s).

it was a few years ago when i was getting into Linux pretty heavily, they were very very strict about the "research than ask" thing -- and it was very hard to get help once somebody answered it already, even if it was a year ago.

yes it would be intensive, and time consuming, but i like doing little projects like that -- like i said, i never went through with it

thats cool. It's easy to see where something like that would be handy if you could take the data and organize it and be able to sort out all the "fluff" etc etc.
