Photos in ReefPedia

Here's how to add a photo.

I will use the second photo down on this page as an example:

(the purple monti)

The basic structure looks like this:

Before you've uploaded a photo to ReefPedia, go ahead and type that into the page you're editing. Switch "monti.jpg" with another name. After the pipe (this thingy -> |) the "thumb" just says it's a thumbnail of the photo so you can resize it. "right" is where it will be on the page ("left" or "center" will work too). 350px is the size of the largest side you're resizing it down to. "Encrusting montipora species" is the caption.

Now, save the page once you've added that.

You'll see that instead of a photo, you have a link. Click the link and you'll be taken to the photo upload page. Hopefully it's pretty straightforward from there- browse to the pic on your hard drive, and you should be good to go!

Now when you go back to the page the photo will be there.

Nevermind. I figured it out. I just kept making it smaller untill it took it

It will accept a pic of approx 700pixels X 500pixels. My photos were huge @ 2250 x 2500 so I resized them and saved with a diff name "small----".

Doni, when uploading an image that size did you get an "ignore warnings" checkbox?

Also, on the page the image was linked from, did you thumbnail it down to a certain size?

I don't see an image size limit anywhere...

They were big pictures (approx 2225 x 2300+) The upload never worked unless I resized them.

No, I did not 'thumbnail it down'. I use that same command string above with the |300px| . Doesn't that thumbnail it down?

Further research shows it may be the PHP limiting the upload size from the server... can't do much on that one.

If you don't want it formatted, you can link to it by simply adding the url in the wiki page. See here and click on "edit" and go to the bottom of the page to see how I did it.
