I didn't think they were that colorful but you're probably right. My LFS thinks it's a bristle worm also but I'd not found any pictures of them with the red/blue superman markings.

Too bad, it's kinda cool looking but it's gonna have to go if it's a bristle worm.

I have ones in my tank that are that same color......blue and red. They don't harm much but i'm thinking my new coris wrasse is going to harass them!

if you do an image search for bristleworm some of the pics look like that, however if you search fireworm 99% look like your pic. thats assuming im correctly seeing white fur looking stuff around its bodys perimeter. but idk ive never really seen pics from someone who knew for sure. all the bristleworms ive had did not have the fur and were all pink or a few gray.

+1 you guys are right on with the fireworm ID, which also happens to be categorized as a variety of bristleworm.

Not positive they were the culprit but I found an empty nassarius snail shell not more than an inch from where I found the two worms below this morning. I've also lost a few heads off the kryptonite candy cane coral that they hitchhiked in with.

Could have been something else, I do have a homicidal peppermint shrimp that could have offed the snail but the candy cane is the only coral in my tank that wasn't doing great. To be on the safe side I took the coral off the piece of rock it came with and mounted what was left on a frag disk and threw the rock in the trash.

Here's a better pic of the two buggers I pulled out this morning.

you might try putting a piece of red plastic over a.flashlight and looking for more scurrying around at night. i tried very hard to remove any and all bristleworms before adding my rock but some still got in. the regular ol pink bristleworms dont really bother me but i want to have control of their numbers.

Why remove them. They are a harmless part of the CUC.

I'm not so sure after finding a dead nassarius right next to the 2 that I pulled out. Could have been coincidence for sure but I figure if the sting burns humans as much as people claim it would be nothing to take out a snail. I've got a healthy amphipod population in addition to the regular CUC so i figure why give the bristle worms a chance to take over.

i personally just dont like them. i think theyre all ugly and some do eat stuff i wouldnt want them eating. most of the bristleworms ive pulled were more of a plain pink and the white barbs around its body barely noticable.

They are great CUC, I leave all mine and if you want to control them get a Coral Banded Shrimp they are great worm hunters! I have one. Chances are the snail was dead and they ate it, I'd give em a high five. (if they had hands)
