| Manta Ray ![]() | I know its not your picture, but its very difficult ot ID anemones from just a "head shot". You really need to see the base of the anemone, and the oral disc to determine properly since many of the different anemones look alot alike. Just a rough guess, a bleached out Heteractis sp. Nick

| Manta Ray ![]() | Anemone's will "Bleach" (expell zooxanthellae) when stressed just like corals. They typically do this when stressed from shipping. Anemone's arent white by nature. I've seen domino damsels hosted by a variety of anemones, when younger. Yes they can survive after bleaching if given adequate care. I wouldnt buy an anemone unless its tentacles are "sticky" to the touch. If the tentacles are sticky, the nematocycsts are firing in the tentacles, so it no longer has a feeding response. Its mouth should closed, not gaping open, unless its expelling waste. I don't believe thats a M. doreensis LTA, (the most commonly available.). The tentacles are the wrong shape. But to be honest I cant see the the oral disc, and I cant see the foot of the anemone to look for verucae, (warts on the side of the column, present in a few species of anemone...like M.doreensis). There is another anemone which is commonly labeled Long Tentacle Anemone as well.......Heteractis crispa. It might be one of these.... Here is a pretty decent online resource for anemones.... HTH, Nick

| the wood dude ![]() | i believe stress is the main reason, although with good care they can retain there color again. mine unfortunately is not lookin its best due to a powerhead shooting at it at full force a week or so ago so we'll see how it does. good luck with yours.this mine before the powerhead incident.
