Re: pulsing critter

Well, I've done some more looking and they appear to have very fine tentacles. I know the picture is blurry, but it does show what I've found.

Re: pulsing critter

I have a better video, taken with the subject in a petri dish. I'm guessing that it's a jellyfish, and the other ones I've found just haven't gotten big enough to become free swimming yet. Anyway, here's the video: P1010041.flv video by l3fty999 - Photobucket

Re: pulsing critter

It sure does look like a jellyfish pulsating. I'll await an opinion by Boomer and others.

Re: pulsing critter

I thought it looked like a jellyfish pulsating in the first video, but definitely one in the second video. Acts like a baby upside-down jelly, but doesn't quite look like one. Maybe it will when it gets bigger or just another species that sits upside-down. Interesting HH to say the least!

Re: pulsing critter

Well, I've done some looking at Chuck's Addiction, and here's what I found:Indo Pacific Hitch Hikers

Scroll partway down to the photos of Cassiopeia Andromeda and that's what I think it is.

Re: pulsing critter

Good ID l3fty999 - it does look like it could be the anchored polyp form of Cassiopeia andromeda, or at least a very similar species. They don't sound like something you want in the tank.

Yeah, I wouldn't want a jellyfish or anything similar in my tank.

Yep, I think it's time to go through and pluck'em out. If I feel really ambitious, I might stick a few in an isolated tank just to watch them through the development cycle.
