feather duster or Ich?

After introducing some live rock, I found these little white, circular spots growing very rapidly in my tank. My two clowns don't seem affected by any Ich, but I'm concerned because these critters are growing so fast.

I've been scraping them off as I see them, as I was very concerned about Ich. I then put one under a 10x microscope and took a pic. I could see two 'tails' which makes me more concerned about Ich.

Thanks for any help w/the ID...

here's the macro-view. These critters are quite circular, and white.

Looks like spirorbid worms.

Harmless, and common.

HTH,

Thanks Reeflady, I was just trying to cross-reference. Looking under the scope, I haven't been able to notice a spiral, or spiraling tendancy. Perhaps I can get a better picture, but they appear to have two flagella (if I remember my biology) or long skinny protrusions coming from one side.

I suppose I should 'treat the symptom', and since my beloved clowns don't have any symptoms, I won't do anything.

Thanks again!

Hmmm methinks you're not going to live up to your name. Nice research.

Sorry, but my best guess is some sort of sedentary polychaete! Not too specific, sorry.

Btw, Ich will only appear on fish, not on glass or other inverts ..... if that helps at all.

That helps. I've just taken the monocular lens out of my microscope and put it to the glass. I can't get a digital pic, but this little sonofagun is all white, and about 80% full w/little yellow/orange (I hate to say it..) eggs. I really think I need to scrape-siphon all these critters out of the tank (again). I'll try to get a better pic up, as I'm getting more concerned now that I see their biological intention...

Thanks again! I hope to post some microscope pics later..

Scott

I was able to scrape off some of these critters, and get a picture through the scope. I'm not sure if a worm would be filled with eggs. These guys are very white and filled about 3/4 w/yellow (mini-eggs). They remind me of an egg, and I hope they're not a 'bad-egg'... Thanks to all for the help...

Slow

They sure look like Spirorbids as Teri has stateed

With the shell ;

Releasing eggs;

With the shell drawing;

Without the shell drawing;

With Epifauna, meaning small animals that grow on the shell of the animal

thanks all for the help. i now think that these were turbo snail eggs. i have seen my turbo snails 'wrastling' a couple of times, and it seems (?) that i now have some new tiny snails.

i hope they leave the Barry White on for the clowns....
