Anyone know what this is?

Just noticed this a few weeks ago. Any ideas? I'm sure the picture won't come out right, I'm still trying to figure out this upload thing. Thanks

Can you provide a larger, more detailed photo?

Re: Anyone know what this is?

You can upload photos here to RS: Uploading Photos to RS

OR

You can open an account at Photobucket and upload there then place the URL link here at RS.

I use both

Can't tell from that photo. Try creating a free Photobucket account and load the full size pic there. Then copy the img tag (under the pic) and add that to your post. It doesn't hurt to go through a pic orogram and circle what you want us you want us to look at.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

I did this on photobucket, but everytime I tried to upload here, it said no such url. I'm VERY new to this uploading stuff, so I'll try again tonight.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Let me go get my magnifying glass! A bigger picture may not be enough. This photo is over exposed and washed out. Try getting a better, more detailed picture as Chuck suggested.

Make sure the original photo is large. You may need to change the settings on your camera to the highest pixels (higher quality/definition).
Also make sure you select a large upload size when using Photobucket. You have the option of tiny avatar up to huge sizes there.
Once uploaded, just copy the URL (under the photo in photobucket) then paste here in your thread.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

To insert the pic, copy the "direct link" from photobucket, then click the little landscape picture above the quick reply here. Paste the image url into the popup window. Or type [IMG]paste url here[IMG]

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Thanks Octoman. So does anyone know what the blob is? It doesn't move and at times seems to "deflate". Thanks for all your help

Re: Anyone know what this is?

I'm thinking either a sponge or tunicate. Does it have two big siphon looking holes in it?

Still no way of telling based on the photograph. Everything is just a guess.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Octoman - It seems solid to me - no siphon thingies on it. It's towards the back of the tank and with my cheap camera, it's hard to get a good shot.

Dentoid - I plan on taking a photography class and a computer course soon so I can satiate your over achiever status

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Well, it is hard to tell from that pic. But, I blew it up to about 500% and it is structured like a "honeycomb" coral or something like a Lettuce coral, like Agaricia humilis. And of either it is just statring to grow maybe from a coral larva. However, there is also honeycomb sponge that is similar.

Honeycomb Sponge ( But I just don't see it and you said it was solid)

Honeycomb Coral

Lettuce

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Thanks Boomer. How would it get there? I haven't changed anything in the tank and the rock it's on has been there about 3 yrs. It appears solid because it had no siphons on it, but at times it looks like it "deflates". I figured it was dying but the next day it's back to normal. It's towards the back of the tank and about the size of a dime.
