Silk Tube?

I recently purchased a small rock with zoanthids and had to relocate it when my anemone decided to take a walk. When I picked it up, there was a silk-like tube connecting the zo rock and the existing rock. The new rock is about the size of a baseball. The tube connecting the two rocks was about as round as a pencil. The only thing I have seen is a small, black, roundish, fuzzy something living in a hole where the rock had been. it is quick and very sensitive to movement. I am going to look tonight after lights out and see if I can see anything. I also want to see if the silk tube is respun now that it has been moved (whether it is still in the rock or has moved to the existing rockwork).

I will follow up with pictures but I need some help taking the photos while I hold the rock up. I also need to get more gloves... I am kind of wigged out to hold the rock not knowing what is inside. I have been very lucky so far and have not had to deal with any bad hitchhikers yet.

Re: Silk Tube?

Here it is closer... Notice: I risked my life and held the rock without gloves. Steve Irwin would be proud!

Re: Silk Tube?

I have some of those too.
Can never find anyone at home in them.
Wonder if they are the same as the worm tubes I find in the sand as well.
2 clear tentacles. Can't remember the worm species right now.

People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: Silk Tube?

I've seen those with worms in them. I've always left them alone, and haven't noticed any harm done!

Re: Silk Tube?

Still hard to tell but looks much more like a duster worm tube of some sort rather than a Chaetopterid or even a Spionid as the are really small. The pics do remind of the tube worm Filograna implexa

Re: Silk Tube?

I agree, just the tube alone is not going to tell you much as there are a great many possibles.

Re: Silk Tube?

Thanks. It seems like it tries to connect the newer rock to the existing base rock. I haven't seen anything or any harm done to anything...

i have gone down late at night to see if i can catch a glimpse of something... nothing.
