Arrow What Could it Be?

Sorry that I can't post a pic. So I hope I can explain it to you all.

The hubby recently moved around the LR in our tank, to get a better looking set up. When he lifted one of the rocks, he noticed that there was sand tubes. The sand tubes were under the sand. So he set it up where I could see. It was wierd! It was never there! While taking a better look, we noticed that out of one of the tubes, this long, string like, creature was coming out of one of the tubes, very super thin. It was long, could even be longer. I believe it could have been building sand tubes as tunnels maybe under the sand?

If you have any idea what it is. Please let me know. Safe or not safe?

Thanks

Re: What Could it Be?

It is very light in color, a bit transparent. The shape hmm...all I can think about is it looking like a strand of hair....it came out about 2 inches out of the sand tube that it made. Then it returned back into the tube.

Re: What Could it Be?

More than likely a polychaete worm of some type. You can check the link below and see if something looks familiar.

Re: What Could it Be?

Phyllochaetopterus sp.

The tube will look like it is covered in grains of sand. With mine they usually have two strands which come out. They are suspension feeders and they are harmless.
