Aptasia

So i found this guy (see pic link below) sprouting on some live rock from Florida. Some one said it might be Aptasia and to get rid of it. Sorry bout the poor pic, im still trying to get that down. The creature is very magenta in color and there is a cluster of "infantile" buds below it and few other random buds elsewhere on the rock. I plan on watching for a bit to see how it develops.
Here is the pic
Here is my tank site
Any thoughts? I will try to take more pics (better hopefully, as the thing grows and matures.

Re: Aptasia

Not Aptasia,it's a Majano.Pretty much as much of a pest as Aptasia.

Re: Aptasia

Definitely a lot more attractive than aiptasia....
I've got a handful of little fanworms that look like that on a couple of my rocks and have not had any reproduction or attack problems. I actually enjoy them.

Re: Aptasia

That is definitely a majano. The big distinguishing mark is the bulbous tips on the tentacles.

Subdued, some aiptasia are quite clear. They are also called "glass anemonies".
Hope this helps.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

We call them Siamese Fighting Glass Anemones locally! Often they are clear and magically pretty when it's just a couple. Where there are a couple today there will be a BUNCH tomorrow!!

aptaisa, mojano... doesn't matter... it's GOTTA GO!!

Re: Aptasia

I've had some Aiptsia that ive killed off with kalk, but i've left this anemone to see how and what it turns out to be. I have some better pics now.
Larger images on my site.
Its so hard to photograph, its only about 1/2" at most fully outstretched.
Now i could be totally wrong, but all the majanos pics ive seen they were green tipped, this guy has no green.
Also, there is a fuzzy sponge like thing growing behind him, should i worry, its been there for a week or two.

Re: Aptasia

Looking at the closeup pics on your site, it doesn't look like a majano.
They look almost like flower petals.
Kind of cool looking.

Re: Aptasia

Its still small so i'm just waiting it out. Any special treatment or diet i should be feeding it. Its so small i dont know what i could feed it. They're mostly photosynthetic but will eat solids from what i've read.
I'm almost thinking it could be a RBTA, the tentacle have looked bubble like at times. These pics were taking after the lights went out and i turned them back on so it wasnt fully outstretched like usual.
