Without seeing them a definite ID isn't possible, but your critters sound more like colonial hydroids than dusters.A pic would be nice.....

Re: Brown featehr dusters?

It also could be a colony of dusters. Grab a pic, it may not be clear to you, but someone who knows these animals may know. Feather dusters are a WONDERFUL addition to a tank. People pay for them, I do not know why you would want to get rid of them? The also help to lower your Nitrates..Try and get a picture up. Are there little tubes that the "crown" (feathers) retract into when touched by something/another fish? If not they could be something else..

To get rid of them you first have to remove the rock they are on, carefully bag it with some of your tank water and put it in a styrofoam box. Then put a shipping label with my address on it and put it in the mail! Ha ha ha!! NO really, I think you want to keep them but a pic would be helpful in IDing them.

Hahah at first I was like.. this person is crazy, do not tell him to get rid of these feathers! Until I read the address part. You can put mine as the return address JUST in case something happens during shipping! Hhaha. But once again, a pic wold be wonderful.

Re: Brown featehr dusters?

Il try and get a picture but they do have a tube structure, and go in when something touches them. Only thing is my camera sucks, for picture taking on the tank. I l just watch them and see what happens i have a rainbow shroom, and a few others on that rock and ill see if they do any thing to them.

Just to let you know, Feathers will only HELP your tank. By helping to lower Nitrates. They will no do ANY harm to your rainbow shroom or any other type of livestock! They are just, in your case, itty bitty worms, that ARE good. So enjoy the cool little creatures, and watch how fast they grow!!
