| Tunicate | Oh look at that cute little...hey thats a Mantis Shrimp alright-so I got a Mantis Shrimp that hitchiked on a nice piece of LR. I hear this popping sound and saw him peer out of one of my rocks. So anyway, I went to the LFS and saw one and got a quick and dirty on what they are and what they do. I did some research on here and while they seem kinda interesting, its not what I want for my peaceful tank. How can I trap the little guy/gal? |

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: Oh look at that cute little...hey thats a Mantis Shrimp What do you have in the tank, any fish/snails ? How big is the shrimp ? Are you sure that it's not a Pistol shrimp which also makes that popping sound ? Can you remove the rock he's called home and keep it isolated until he makes an appearance ?

| Tunicate | Re: Oh look at that cute little...hey thats a Mantis Shrimp I have two Percula clowns, a Mandarin Goby and a banded shrimp. I'm sure he's a Mantis. small- about 1 inch and brown with hints of green. He's pretty quick and I really don't want to take all the rock out. He moves from one rock to another. I thought there might be a trap out there to use. |

| Over Achiever | Re: Oh look at that cute little...hey thats a Mantis Shrimp They are way to smart to be caught in a bottle or any kind of trap. The best way to get them is to find the rock they are in and remove it. Suspend the rock over a bucket and pour seltzer water onto the rock. The fizzing will cause the shrimp to exit the rock and fall into the bucket. Make sure you have saltwater in the bucket and have another container with SW. Once he falls into the bucket, scoop him out with a net and put him in the other container to transport him to the LFS. |

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: Oh look at that cute little...hey thats a Mantis Shrimp Scott is right they could probably easily get out. I only used that trap for crabs. If you watch you will see that your mantis has one main rock. Sometimes my shrimp are very active and all over the tank and other times they spend days not leaving their rock. They just poke their head out and look around. I enjoy making eye contact with mine.

| Elegance coral | Re: Oh look at that cute little...hey thats a Mantis Shrimp You could try the trap first... maybe you got lucky and got a "stoopid" one. ![]() Or, if you see him in the trap, and then reach for it, maybe it will startle him enough so that he gets "lost" for a moment. ?Maybe?
