Re: LFS told me to kill these things

I've heard peppermint shrimps occasionally nip at corals. Anyone have any opinions on that?

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: LFS told me to kill these things

I know I am usually in the minority on this topic, but if your tank is big enough, I would get a Copper Banded Butterfly. I love mine. He got rid of my aptaisia in one night. My LFS tells me they can be finicky and hard to get to eat. Mine is not. He eats all food I put in and nothing else except the aptaisia.

I have had sporadic problems with peppermint shrimp stealing food from my LPS corals (mostly open brains).

Re: LFS told me to kill these things

CBB are concidered hard to feed as well as questionable on the reef safe category. They are known to pic at corals particularly LPS.

I always wanted a copper banded butterfly, but I'm pushing the limits of stocking capacity as is.
