Looks like it could be a glass anemone, not something you really want. They spread quick and have a nice sting.

Re: I.D. needed please!

If it is aptasia, I would say Joe's Juice. I've had pretty good luck with it. If you scrape it off, what's there will become more of them. Did you just get a new piece of rock? A lot of LFS have them even though you can't always spot them.

Glass anemones have a clear base for the most part. That's what throwing me off.

Re: I.D. needed please!

I have plenty of aiptasia. They don't ever seem to turn in on themselves like that. the BTA I have does it alot when he eats.

I'd wait for Boomer. Maybe you got a cool hitchhiker.

Re: I.D. needed please!

It's a ball-tipped anemone, judging by the shape it takes when retracted. Looks to be rather young. These can take on several very brilliant colors. I'd keep an eye on him for a month of so & see if he colors up.

Re: I.D. needed please!

Before you do that I'd get a positive ID, but chances are it is a pest species. If you really don't want to chance it, then be careful when removing. They are called "glass anemones" because they break apart when manipulated and the pieces can reform into many clones.

Since you only have one at this point, you can remove it by placing a siphon tube over it and scraping below its foot, being sure to keep the siphon going, and sucking it all out.

Are you describing the Orange Ball anemone which isn't really an anemone, but a corallimorph? Never heard of the ball-tipped anemone.

Re: I.D. needed please!

I think that it looks similar to Corillimorphs as well, but with how thick those tenticles are it does look similar to a Mojano as well, Boomer will know.
