some kind of Anemone

Wish I could get a pic but it has moved to a spot in my refuge whrere i cant get the camera to focus on him. But he is moving so maybe tonight he will be in a photogenic spot. Thought it was apatasia at first, butdid not withdraw when i moved the rock it was on. also, itis bigger in diameter than it is tall. about 1/4" round to 1/8" tall. Kinda clear brown in color with white bands on its arms. He came in a piece of rock i put in my fuge so hes only been in since saturday. any ideas? good, bad?

Re: some kind of Anemone

I would say it's possibly a "Siamese Fighting Anemone" (aka aptassia) just by the description... I had one (knocks on wood for good luck) and was more stubborn than most. It would stay out until I brushed it with a toothbrush or hit it with the Turkey Baster (water sword). Finally my shrimp decided it HAD to go and it's gone now.

Good luck

Re: some kind of Anemone

Just got in from work, I think that it is Apitasia. I left the refuge light on since this morning, the sucker is fully extended now, about 1 to 1.25" long, kinda clear brown. Still in a bad spot for a photo. Joe's juice here I come.

Strange that it is moving. I would hold off on the juice and get a picture up of it first.

Re: some kind of Anemone

I had one that was very mobile in my 30.
It changed rocks 2 or 3 times.

Re: some kind of Anemone

I have an aiptasia. It has moved around several times. I have had it for a long time now. I think it is too big for my peppermint shrimp to eat.

However, it has not multiplied, so I leave it alone. I keep an eye out for new ones popping up, but never see them. Either it does not reproduce, or the peppermint finds them before I can see them.

Has only moved once. Went from the rock to a place on the glass and has stayed there since.

Wow, I honestly never saw one move. Maybe because i was to quick to kill them!
If it is on the glass then use a credit card and scrap it off. Thats an easy removal imo.

Re: some kind of Anemone

Mine was weird, it kind of slid along the rock. It would just inch each day a little bit further. Not fast enough to watch and see, but noticeable day to day. I knew it came from somewhere when it popped up front and center in my tank when I was gone on vacation. They must let go and float for purposes of spreading their evil.

Re: some kind of Anemone

Deicided to go PepperMint. Put him in there before going back to work. Just got back, been about 5hrs. The anemonie is no longer on the glass, it is tucked where the glass and sand meet. Majority of the arms are laying flat and it is a bit darker. Still hard to see it. Think maybe the shrimp got a hold of it. When they do eat one do they eat the whole thing in one sitting or mucng on it here and there? It is still in a spot where the camera can not focus on it.

Re: some kind of Anemone

Well the fun is over now. This morning it was up near the surface of the water where I could get a credit card to it. It is now in the bottom of the garbage can drying out. Still not sure what it is/was, but not taking chances.
