Unfortunately, I got rid of my mantis shrimps before I got this book, otherwise
I would have kept them! Don't worry about them eating your fish!

I dont think you have a mantis.
You would have heard him making popping noises.
Could be a big hairy crab of some sorts.

Well!!! After much excitement, MiniMoe is in the 75g, and the mystery fish eater has full reign over the 14g and can stay there as long as he likes, Mike says. He wanted a coral-only tank anyway really. There's a cleaner and a sexy shrimp in there we'll get out too, but for now we'll see if we can lure out the mystery critter with a lack of food. He's got to go hunting one of these days. Mike thinks it's a crab.

Our fish eater might just be this bristleworm that's been in there for a while. It's BIG. I told Mike it was but he thought it was another smallerone he'd seen... well tonight we saw it. There are only the 2 shrimpies in there with him and corals. Some of which MAY have been chewed upon.

Well when Mike saw him he let out a nice string of expletives -- that wasn't the one he'd seen.

SO this worm is possibly thicker than a quarter inch including bristles. Length is undetermined, but probably at least a few inches. We're trying the nylon hose (can't believe I still had a couple pair) with a silverside inside. Mike ate all the cooked shrimp earlier. He hadn't been feeding the tank in the hopes of seeing something, so hopefully he'll take the bait.

maybe Mike'll be a little more careful about the gloves now...

1/4 inch? That qualifies as an eel I believe.

No go on the hosiery. There's a bristleworm trap, basically a tube with a meshy end, at petsolutions. May try that. Mike tried spearing him but that's not gonna happen, thing is too quick and too buried in the rock. The hunt continues.

Does seltzer water work on worms as well as mantis?

Oh no. We already went through this with Bob. mike does NOT want to move rocks in his tank. At all. No thank you, no way, no how. Bob suggested I persuade him with some activity that's illegal in 7 states. (and how did Bob get in on this you may be asking? me too, I'm still asking.)

So my response is mike's on his own on this one. There's two shrimps in there who have proven pretty smart so far, and I'll probably get them soon just to be safe, but that's all the mobile critters in that tank now. So MIke's on his own. I will spectate from a safe distance. and offer criticism... I mean advice.
