Very interesting tid bit (NO CIRCULATION SYSTEM) huh
So very little food is shared across the colony?
Just an assumption on my part
Thanks

Here is a quote from Borneman's book:
"Distichopora have no recirculation canal systems and the dactylopores align next to the gastropores laterally along the branches. A middle row of gastropores has a row of dactylopores on each side of it.... Distichopora violacea is the most common species and adopts a lacy, uniplanar, branching formation. Colonies are typically quite small."
"it is likely these hydrocorals will also succumb to dietary insufficiens. They are perhaps even more difficult to maintain that Stylaster, owing to their lack of a circulatory system for nutrients."

Thanks again
So I wonder if those little crevices are the
“recirculation canal systems and the dactylopores align next to the gastropores laterally along the branches”
Interesting stuff again.
I will look in my copy of veron's for that one. I just took some of those pics tonight and it’s late here in NJ

Sharks

So I wonder if those little crevices

I posted an answer but it appears I hit the preview button and not the send button. The crevices contain the polyps, which extend very thin colorless tentacles.

bagged both today for customers and they did not sting at all

Well, you are not going to get stung if the tentacles are not out now are you

Plates

Neither is an Acropora, they are not structured right. Plate 1 looks like a Mycedium sp ( where the corallites are always directed towards the outer edge with a slight tilt and good spacing between the corallites) and Plate 2 a Echinopora sp plate corals. Also check Oxpora sp

Boomer I’ve said it before and once again you are the man!
OK quick question?
If they are not acro corals will I need vert type foods?
I avoid those types of additives and would rather keep corals that my thousand dollar lights can keep
I will do more looking tomorrow but I don’t want to waste the LFS’s time and money by backing out at the last minuet.

On another note…
Are you going to MACNA Boston?
I really owe you a couple drinks with all the help you have given me over the last year!
Thanks again!
Mark

OK never mind the first question. I have no problem after a quick search with any of these you mentioned.

LOL Yes if the corallites are closed I wont get stung

We need to hang out one night!
And when my eyes glass over it’s because I am drunk NOT because I’m completely lost in chemistry world.

LOL
Thanks again
Mark

Forgot to reply to this flinipin' post Sharks

Treat the same as Acro's

Are you going to MACNA Boston?

No, I'm planning on a little geology fielfd trip this summer for 10 days and I can't afford both.

We need to hang out one night!

Yes, you and some others. I should go to MACNA, watch it will be somewhere next year ,and those asking me now won't be going Every time I invite a reefer to a bar they never show up, why is that ? Dam, I may have to rethink that, Tom Frakes & Randy will be there. I assume Teri also, need to hug here I miss Tom, need to meet Randy, I pester him allot . It is in September and the field trip would be in June if I go. If I don't go I could kill a week or two of vacation from June and go ....MAYBE, we will see how things go. GLAD YOU BROUGHT IT UP.

LOL you sound undecided
It's going to be a blast I have a long list of people to meet and hang with from here, FRAG, and RC.
There is a long list of folks going...Teri, Mojo, Wit, and many more.
If not there is always next year

Thanks for the info too I decided to wait on the corals and ordered my Ca reactor instead.
But that is good to know so I can help the customers who ask.
