Re: black growth id please,

Hmm. I do have a basic microscope but would have no idea what I was looking at/for. I wonder if I can figure out a way to take a pic of what the microscope shows. Might be an interresting experiment for the weekend.

Re: black growth id please,

I wonder if the folks at wetwebmedia could be a help? If they say the spots are portals to dark undersea universes we'd have to accept it, I think.

ReefBase :: Main Publications : An undescribed fungal pathogen of reef-forming crustose coralline algae discovered in American Samoa.

Heres some source about a black fungal pathogen found on some coral reefs back in 98'

Re: black growth id please,

Wow. Now I am going to have to check out those sources.
I don't think I have seen anything like that in my tanks...definitely something to watch for, though!

Re: black growth id please,

I have been looking real close to see if there is any more in the tank. It grew very slowly untill I upgraded the lighting that's when it really took off! The other purple coraline got fried by the light. It's starting to come around now.
I did look at it with a simple hand held microscope. It looked just like coraline & had the same texture. This is a small sized piece of Kaelini I had for years. Actually it looked attractive in a sinister way! LOL Thanks for the interest.
