Got a doozy here...

Mike has this THING in his 14. Moves fast, can't get a pic of it yet. I'd say a cross between a nem and urchin.

It's about an inch across, I guess it's "main" body would be roundish with what looks like feathers or the leaves of seaweed, clearish to gray with darker tips swaying in the flow, or when it moves. I tried to draw it, I'll attach my drawing.

Nudibranch? Just a guess. Fast moving, that's a stumper.

Re: Got a doozy here...

Mike thought it was gook that collected in the mangrove, but it moved pretty darn fast for a nem. COULD be a nudibranch, but it is a little more "round" in overall shape and it's got long tentacle things for a nudibranch.

Could it be a decorator crab? They move fast and wear all kinds of disguises.

Oh yeah, it's a nudibranch. It's got the shape and two "antennae" -- the "tentacles" as I was calling them are long pieces all over it's body waving in the breeze.

Re: Got a doozy here...

Next time you see one, take it out and put it in your tank and tell him you have a neat HH!

Re: Got a doozy here...

If that is what it is, they will consume any aiptasia that you may have in your tank and then starve to death. They are very specific feeders and are usually added to eliminate aiptasia. Once the aiptasia are gone they starve to death. Sorry but I wanted to tell you now so you don't get attached to it and start naming it. They have a very short life expectancy.

If you're wrong about identification, you may just have found what is doing in your zoas. I'd catch it and move it to the fuge. JMHO.

Re: Got a doozy here...

Mike does actually have a small fuge area he needs to light...

and I might steal it anyway, I have aiptasia!!! I think there's a big one in one of the tanks at the LFS, I might see if they will let me have it to see if this thing eats it.

Re: Got a doozy here...

Umm, too late Doc. I'm calling him Spike. Mike, after reading your post and everything that's online about them, wants to name it "Dead."

Re: Got a doozy here...

I'd have to vote with Mike on this one provided your identification is correct. Sorry.
