What on earth is this thing????

This weird squiggly thing is on one of our new mushrooms, and I'm not sure if it's ok to go into the tank. Anyone have any clue as to what it is and if it's safe?

Looks to me like the mushroom spewed part of it's guts. Very common for them to do when they are moved or stressed.

Not harmful and should recover fully.

I'd agree. When I see these though I usually see them more in the middle of the mushroom. Can you describe this more? Are they attached, or loose?

They are attatched, and to me look like some kind of tiny coral, maybe even a mushroom, but I can't imagine a mushroom attaching to and growing directly on another one. It's outlined in white and brown in the middle.

Typically if I see this on a mushroom it is usually when I am I in the tank messing with it and they are gone the next day. Do you have it in the QT tank? If you are unsure, just leave it there.

So you have seen them in your tank then? I will see what happens with them. They have gotten smaller since I last looked at them, maybe they will go away.

I guess it could be spewing guts, just looks like something attached to the shroom. We will see what happens. Thanks!

Nope, they're very soft, they move with the movement of the water, but stay attatched, They also expand and contract. Very weird.

They are exactly what the others have said, when fragging my shrooms, i had to push one somewhat firmly down, and that's what it looked like from the mouth, it "inverted" itself. I wouldnt worry about it

Thanks guys and gals. That's exactly what it was. They are all gone now. Coincidentally I just looked in my tank and a hermit crab was walking across one of the other mushrooms I have and it did the same thing. Another mystery solved!!
