| Scopas Tang | Ok so I have a few nems that I saw in my 12g pod when I was taking coral out to move to my 125. I noticed a couple a few months ago and then found a bunch more today. They are not Aptasia, and I don't think they are Mojo either. They seem to prefer low, to no light at all as they are all on the bottoms of rocks and in the back of the tank where there is no light. I don't have any pics as of yet however. They are completely clear, have perfectly round white bulb tips at the ends of the tenticles, have a pinkish red foot, and are about 3/4 to 1 inch across when fully expanded. I have never seen any in the tank in the light, and I looked at them after lights out with flashlight and I saw more that I didn't see before with it. I just need to know if I need to zap any on the rocks that I put in the tank. I have had the pod for over a year and have never seen any ill effects, or any outbreaks in the open. Any help is much appreciated.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Hitching anemone I will post a pic later, I have seen many Aptasia and I don't think that this is one. The tenticles don't look anything like any Aptasia I have ever seen.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Hitching anemone They look very similar to that, but without the white swirls in the tenticles. The tenticles are completely clear, but the tenticles are all on the side just like this photo Cup coral. They dont' really have any color except for the foot. When I disturb them they don't retract into a rock they retract into what a zoo looks like a little, but definately not zoos. The cup coral would make some sense though because they don't really like light, and they do seem more open at night. Aiptasia likes light doesn't it? They are moble however, I put one rock right on the sand and the nem moved out to the open to catch food I would guess. The tenticles are also very straight like the cup and aren't curly like Aiptasia, but they are all completely clear with the white bulbs on the end. I'm trying to get a good pic of some but it's very hard.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Hitching anemone Ok Dentoid I think that you hit the nail on the head with the Cup Coral. After doing more searches online for pics I found this one that looks almost exactly what I'm seeing, good cal karma to youl!!!!! http://www.stanford.edu/~bhackett/ba.../cup-coral.jpg and this one http://www.seaotter.com/marine/resea...cs/elegans.jpg I finally got a good pic as well and I will post tomarrow. So if it's Cup Coral is it fine just to leave them alone? They aren't much to look at, do you think that they will every color up at all?

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Re: Hitching anemone You have a orange ball anemone, aka Cup-coral, not actually an anemone but a Corallimorpharian. Here is a almost perfect pic Pseudocorynactis caribbeorum Orange Ball Anemone: - Travel and Underwater Photography by Jim Christensen However, ther is also an anemone that is somewhat similar, Club-Tipped Anemone, Telmatactis americana ![]()

| Scopas Tang | Re: Hitching anemone Thanks Boomer karma to you. I'm leaning towards the club tipped more because when I do a search for them they look more familiar. My photos did make the bulbs at the end look orange but they really don't look like that, they look more like Strawberry Anemones (Corynactis californica) to me because the middles are more of a pink/orange like the one's in the top left of this photo. http://www.divebums.com/FishID/Image..._anemones2.jpg Are they reef safe? I tried to use some Joe's juice on one that came in on a rock for my 125g and it didn't seem to effect it. Here is also a pic of the one in my tank during the day if it's in bright light, or disturbed it closes up like this. ![]()

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Re: Hitching anemone To me it looks like a Ball Anemone. For one reason club-tips look like clubs, meaning the are fat like a baseball bat. Balls' when closed-up like your last image. Yours sits like a Ball. IIRC Ball's have a lot more tentacles. Clubs are not common in this hobby. Are they dangerous, yes VERY DANGEROUS and to include to you. This anemone can reallllllllly hurt you. They can tear your skin off and leave permanent scars.
