| Tunicate | ![]() I Found This Guy Swimming In My Tank One Night Awhile Ago. I Dont know Much About It Only That It Swam near An Aiptsia And Once It Touched the Apitsia, It Bursted In To A Bunch Of Tiny Blue Particles.My LFS Has No Clue on What It Is. Please Could Some On Help Me.. |

| Sea Pen | Re: Blue Worm In Tank Swimming and then bursting are very good clues as to it being a swarmer, a reproductive mode that a great many worm species use. If you see another, or any worm for that matter and wish an ID on it, please try to catch it, put in a shallow container of water and get as close a photo as possible. | Tunicate | Re: Blue Worm In Tank Chuck's right, it's an epitoke - a polychaete or section of a polychaete that transformed as the worm reached reproductive maturity. They swim into the water column to release the eggs or sperm. Sperm is usually white while eggs are often colored so the blue means it was a female. If there was only one you don't have to worry about a population explosion. |
