candy cane growth

Approx. two months ago, this guy started growing near the base of my candy cane. His growth is slow and steady, and the movement of his "flowers" mimics that of a pulsing xenia. Any ideas?

Either pulsing xenia or clove polyps.
Is it one animal like a xenia or more of an encrusting mat(clove polyp).

Re: candy cane growth

It is one animal, and very symetrical. Every flower has no more, or no less than 8 pedals.

Re: candy cane growth

Then most likely a xenia.
I'm no expert by any means, so expect a few others to chime in here.

Great score on the hitchhiker by the way!

Sounds like clove polyps to me, they only have 8 "pedals".

Here's a pic of my clove polyps, from what I can see in your pic they look the same.

I'm no expert either but I hope that helps, JMHO

Re: candy cane growth

Perhaps you guys are right. The more I look at them the more they look like xenias to me too. My wife has some pom pom xenias that look pretty similar. Maybe I need glasses.

Re: candy cane growth

Could it be the larger form of Anthelia? Does it grow in a mat type formation, or a stock type formation?
