Question Coral ID? Leather thingy?

I got this from LFS and can't for the LIFE of me remember what it is...

It's wild how sometimes it's upright and tree-ish and sometimes it's almomst flat and wilted looking.... Right now it's standing tall and proud but it could go limp at any moment...

What exactly is it?

What are it's light requirements and does it take any special feeding?

Thanks in advance!

Allen

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

That's IT! Sweet! Do you do anything "special" for it? special feeding, care, light?

Re: Coral ID? Leather thingy?

It's not attached to rock or anything else. Just a stalk! Should I glue/epoxy it up on a rock higher up in the tank closer to the lights? Also I see it can be toxic to some species of "Stoney Coral" and it's right next to a Closed Brain coral. Should I move it up higher in the rock for this reason?

Re: Coral ID? Leather thingy?

Haha man you just got a coral that I am sending you... although mine is a bit different with the polyps... Let it attach to the sand then you can glue/epoxy it or what ever you want. No it is mainly toxic to SPS not LPS. Also i have a devils finger that is about 9" that is right next to all of my SPS with absolutely no problems! I also have my green an regular toadstools next to all my LPS and again no problems!

Re: Coral ID? Leather thingy?

It's all good bro! You gotta remember I have two different tanks!!

I do have a question for those of you who HAVE this type of coral...

Does yours change from time to time? I mean go from flat and limp to upright and perky? With seemingly no reason?

Allen

Re: Coral ID? Leather thingy?

yeah we have two of those with two distinct personalities. They are beautiful when they polyp out. Sarcoptins. spelling may be wrong. I saw a gold one a few days ago that would be ours if we had our 150 already. I love leathers. Especially the ones that polyp.
