Teeny-tiny hitchhiker

I'm pretty sure this thing is WAAAAY too tiny to photograph, but I will try later when i get home anyways. It looks like a tiny white shell, with a tiny bright red fuzz ball sticking out of it. When my husband or I go anywhere near the tank the red fuzz ball retracts into the shell VERY QUICKLY, I think it's scared of us. Anyone seen anything like this before?? We also have a gray smooth shelled snail, cute!!

Is the shell coiled & stuck to a rock or your glass? then it's probably a spirorbid feather duster. Take a look at Piotr Rotkiewicz's Photo Gallery :: Worms (Robaki) :: spirworm01

It doesn't appear to be coiled, and is stuck to a rock. I've been searching but cannot find anything that looks like it...

Sounds like a feather duster worm of some type. A picture would help tremendously with the ID.

Ok, I will try to get a pic tonight. It's SOOOOO tiny, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a good one. I will deffinitely try though!!!

If your camera has a macro setting try using that. It helps focus on really small things up close.

This is a feather duster colony that came on my LR. Does it look like this?

I'm not sure if my camrea has a macro setting. I am deffinitely impaired in that department. I did try to get a pic though, but forgot to bring in my camera this morning, so i will have to post it later on this evening. I THINK I got a good one, so we will see!!

I think it may be some type of feather duster. I think it's even tinier than the ones you posted Dentoid, but it is bright red and the tip is more rounded. Do they get scared when they see you?? This one quickly recedes back in its hole anytime it sees us. It's pretty cute! Hopefully it will survive!!

I will post that pic when I get home, so we can hopefully figure out what it is!!

If your camera has a macro setting it will look like a flower. Kind of like a tulip. At least that is what it has always looked like on mine and I have had several different brands.

It DOES have one of those!! I have no clue what any of theose little symbols mean!! I actually realize that I did bring my camera to work with me, so I will post the pic and see if anyone knows what it is. Thanks for the info!!

If you put it in your gallery then you can link it in multiple threads. Just so you know for the future. I looked at the pics a minute ago and unfortunately I have no idea. I am not very good at the ID game. Lots of other are though so hopefully they will know.

I found a pic of it online. It is a Coco Worm!! It's very tiny though. I read they can get up to 7" long!!! Hopefully it will survive, we found another one even tinier, so now we have 2!!

My LFS said it's shipped straight from Hawaii. Looks like it's all pretty good too, I just got a new pice from him on Sat. and that piece had one of those little buggers on it too!! Good to know this little guy is a good guy! We will be upgrading our lighting soon, so hopefully he'll have a chance!!
