| Golden Moray | wierd senario... ok, I placed a dried up, several times bleached piece of dead white branchy type coral in my tank when I switched from the 29g to the 55g, to serve as some base rock.. I was looking around the tank today, and the dead coral has some massive growth on it. it is not on nearby rocks, just growing on the dead coral. I have no idea what it is, but it is growing in heavy patches all over it. It has not covered all of it yet, but at this 3 week growth rate, it will not take long. Anyone seen this before? Whatever it is it must not require much light,.. its very shaded where the peice is..The last pic is of some type of orange filter feeder.. and I also found a tiny tiger serpent star today, but could not get a pic of him. All I could see was his legs.... On to the pics: Mystery shot #1 ![]() Shot 2 ![]() Shot 3 - Kinda shows the structure of the dead coral ![]() Shot 4 ![]() Shot 5 ![]() Shot 6 ![]() Shot 7 - Just for fun, the orange filter feeder ![]() Jason

| Elegance coral | Re: wierd scenario... the last one is a tunicate for sure. ive got 4 or 5 of those in my tank. i also have quite a few serpent stars in my tank. your live rock is probably also from the gulf of mexico. as for the crazy growth... it looks sorta like a macro that is just starting out to me. perhaps the bleached coral still had small remnants of macro, or even pods or seeds on it.

| Golden Moray | Re: wierd scenario... I was thinking macro too, due to the fast growth rate, and the look.. except the protrusions are hollow? Jason

| Golden Moray | Re: wierd scenario... would a sponge grow from nothing to this in 3 weeks though? If I put it all together, I would say it would cover a 2" rock... Jason

| Brunt of all Jokes~ | Re: wierd scenario... Well Im thinking its got to be transfer, a well bleached skeleton is unlikely to regrow, the bleaching may have made the coral more attractive as a food source? |

| Golden Moray | Re: wierd scenario... It could have seeded from the LR above it. The piece in ? is part of the base of a cave, and it has a LR celing... The LR above it is new too..... Jason

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: wierd senario... It looks a lot like some macro somebody was trying to get rid of a while ago. I think it was JFK. From what I remember they got a sea hare that mowed it down rather quickly. I'll see if I can find the thread. My memory is not what it once was.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: wierd senario... Well that was a lot quicker than I thought. Here is the thread. I was right. It was JFK and the sea hare did take care of it for him. Apparently it grows rather quickly and had become a nuisance in his tank. Ther are pictures in the first post of the thread. Sea Hares Rock!!!
