worm ID

I found this guy in my 180 last night and was able to catch and discard him. It's a worm looking creature about 10" or so long and it startled me when I saw it. I wasn't expecting to see that! It was out slithering around near the surface about an hour after the lights went out for the night. I went for a net and couldn't find it when I got back to the tank, but I spotted it again on the sandbed and was able to get it out with a net and tongs. Just wondering what it is and if it's something to worry about of if it's harmless in case I happen to find another one. Heres pics:

Re: worm ID

Lol...I know..made me take a double take when I first saw it, definately was not expecting to see anything like that. Hopefully I can figure out what it is. It strangely had a snake shaped head with distuishable eyes. I hated to flush it, but I figured it would be best to get it out of the tank before it got much larger and might possibly be something harmful to my tank. I think I made the right decision.

Re: worm ID

I can't tell as the head is kinda blurry but that looks like a Glycerid, which is not a good thing.

Re: worm ID

That looks very similar as the head looked quite defined like that pic you posted. I was unwilling to get really close to it with a camera because I had no idea what it could do to me if it jumped on or tried to bite so I kept my distance. The only difference I see is that the one I found didn't have the "sawtooth" effect down its sides, it was mainly smooth like an earthworm. That is a good article, thanks for posting it! I;m glad I did dispose of the big worm I found!
