Really ODD snail

Saw this snail in the sandbed the other day and today he had moved across the tank to a spot where I could fish him out for a photo op...
He is about the size of a dime, very flat and both times Ive seen him was in the sand bed
Any ideas?

thats the part of the snail that closes... It isnt a snail but the little trap thing that it coils inside. Meaning that a snail died and that came out of it... All snails have them.

Something must have moved that because it is not a living snail. It is fact part of a snail's shell. It is the piece that seals the opening of the shell when the snail retracts inside.

rofl...I've had a few of those in my tanks over the years...operculum IIRC is the right word...

Thats is the operculum from a turbo... guess that means he is dead...
My nassarius snails were messing with me!!! :brothwolf: They mustve been carrying it around the tank with them like a basketball. When I saw it this morning 2 nassarius were perfectly placed underneath it with their trunks protruding from either side just like my fighting conchs eyes... little devils!!!
