Tube worm fan thingy?!?

ok so i was just taking a gander at my aquarium and there was this thing extending from on top of a rock... and when it "fully extended" i guess these feather duster like "feathers" came out from inside it so when i went to clear the glass a little bit i guess i freaked it out and it shrivled up to a point where its barely visible... i cant get a pic yet but ill post one when it decides to come back out... oh yeah its a light brown color... any ideas?

Sounds like a feather duster worm. Great filter feeder and some are very attractive to look at. Others are pretty plain but still a good thing to have.
