Re: Starfish I can't identify

Starfish are very sensitive to any changes particularly linckia/fromia sp. Also no one really knows what they eat but suspect it's the bacterial film that grows naturally on the LR, that's why they're recommended for large mature systems with plenty of LR for their long term survival.

PS: The reason why I asked if yours had eaten any prepared foods that would rule out any of the linckia/fromia sp.

Yeah mine gets into one certain spot and can/does remain there for days on end. Every once in a while if you're really paying attention you'll see a slight movement of one leg or something. It really looks "dead" during these times but if left alone he'll eventually get done doing whatever it is ( I presume eating) and stroll around the tank. When he's mobile he's all over the place. Then after a while settles down (usually on the LR or on the petrified coral which has a lot of algae growth on it) for a day or so. Unfortunately every time he settles down it's facing the back of the tank and no way to take pictures. One day though!!

Re: Starfish I can't identify

Here is another pic of my tiny star. in this pic you can see my thumb on the left which should give an indication to his tiny size (No I am NOT a giant)

Any idea what he is?

Re: Starfish I can't identify

It is kinda hard to tell from those pic they are not sharp enough. With that being said, from what I see, those look like some pretty good sized papulae, "warts or dorsal spins", thus leads me to believe it is one of the Echinaster sp

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!
