Looks like it might be the molted shell of an invertebrate half buried or a piece of shell-have you tried to poke at it or move it?

After looking at some pictures, I think it is a very small aipstasia. Knowing this, can I just scoop it out since it is in the sand bed or do I need to do the lemon juice thing?

If it can be easily removed then that is the answer. Just keep your eyes open for others since these spread so quickly.

ditto on the aiptasia..but picture isnt quite clear.

just scoop that sucker out , and make sure you get all of em' or he will grow back.....
