| Tridacna maxima | Re: two red algaes to ID hard to tell. the first pic is still so small can not really see it. sorry on that, look at halymenia or gracilaria species. the second hard to tell also. it might be in the chondria or gellidium family but kinda looks like the start of turf algae. what texture do they have?? |

| Bryozoan | Re: two red algaes to ID Number two is a very tough coarse low growing red vine like algae. It spreads from runners. I've had patches of it for about as long as the tank has been up. It grows slowly. If it is a red turf how to control it other than pull it out. Taking the rocks out for a scrub isn't an option as the rock is on has several corals growing on it and is about 12"x7". The first one I agree looks like red version of halmeda. Didn't know it came in red. |

| Acropora ![]() | Re: two red algaes to ID A blue tuxedo urchin will eat #2... It will also eat your coraline though but once the turf is gone you can try feeding the urchin some romaine lettuce I think they like that more than coraline or you could give it to LFS Im not sure if a yellow tang will eat that but maybe...

| Tridacna maxima | Re: two red algaes to ID if it is turf than there is not much you can do. nutrient control may help but this stuff does well with perfect water parameters. might try to raise your ph a bit to 8.4ish, i heard that helps slow it. a yellow tang is your best bet for fish that eat. everyone i know that has used a yellow to control had good results, very good results. if you can not put one in because of tankmate or whatever mexican turbo snails will eat it. takes them some time but they will take care of it. here is a little story of one battle with turf algae and the use of turbos. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...nftt/index.php |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: two red algaes to ID Sea hares are excellent for eating algae but you really need to find what is feeding them. You could have perfect parameters because the algae is eating the nutrients. Avoid overfeeding, rinse all food with ro/di, and check the length of time your bulbs have been running. All three will help with the rood problem which is excess nutrients.
