Chris's 110 reef

I started to convert today, My first order of buisness is the stand. I need to build a stand since my old one would not let me put a sump in. The stand is made out of thin walled square tubing so it is Pretty light I was able to carry it but can hold a lot of weight, I put A 5000 pound coil of steel on it and no problems. the tan will be 120 gal BB that will house softies some fish and as much diversity thta I can put in (with in reason) I love mushrooms a zoos. I will be painting the stand tomorrow ( epoxy paint) as well as building the wall of power on one side. I bought the sump for 50 dollars and will be putting the thing together of the next couple of months. I still have my freshwater to get rid of. I will try to posta couple of pics i hope this works.

Re: So it begins

Nice! That's good you can build your own stand. I really wish mine was about 4-6" taller.

Re: So it begins

this stand is 36 inches tall. It will give a better viewing angle than I have now and will keep my sons sticky fingers out of th tank LOL

Re: So it begins

in the cabinet or canopy? in my canopy one blows in on one side and out on the other. in the stand i would think that this would work to,,,,force air in and across and vent the hot out the other side.

Re: So it begins

Sorry it has been so long since I last posted but I had to empty the tank. I am officaly with out any fresh water fish for the first time in a long time. But now it is on to bigger and better things. So far I have gotten the skimmer I bought a aqua medic T1000 from a friend I just need to figure out which return pump I am going to use I am thinking of a mag 9 but not sure. I ahve not put water in it yet because I am lacking the funds for the pump I hope that I can get it in the next few weeks. I am going to post some pictures now.

This is the stad with the tank on it. i srill have to cover the stand but the wood does not have finish on it yet

Tank in house 1.JPG

Next is the left side of the tank these fans will move air out of the stand

Left side of stand.JPG

Last is the right side of the tank, This is the "wall of power" and the fans that will move air in to the stand

right side of tank.JPG

I hope that you all like it, it has not been easy. Let me know of any ideas or coments.

Chris

Re: Chris's 110 reef

Things have progressed well so far, with only draw back so far, I will explain that later. First I wanted to paint the back black. But I had to mask the rest of the tank first.
masked up.JPG

Ready for paint.JPG

Once that was done I had to spray the tank. IO used Rustoleum Enamal in flat back. I cleaned the tank with MEK before painting.
I am pretty happy with the way that it came out. There is a sheen through the glass but it is not glossy.

all painted.JPG

Then I just put the rock and water in it, I did not do any aquascaping because I need another 60 Lbs of LR Witch I am going to doy in a couple weeks (christmas present).

with water.JPG

I have not plumbed the sump in yet, because There was a miscomunication on the delivery date of the pump, That means they told me Friday and forgot to comunicate to me that it got pushed back to Dec 22. Oh well not much I can do about it but wait. I have 3 Maxi-Jet 1200 in there along with a 350 gph Pump to keep the water moving. I have put Temp Skimmer on there to start to clean the water.

This has nothing to do with this tank but it is the first one that I have had so I am sharing it with you guys. In the month that I have had it, the mushrooms have overgrown the rock that they are on.

First Mushroom.JPG

More to come.

Re: Chris's 110 reef

After having the tank set up for just over two weeks I have not got much of a cycle, I am going to have to add a shrimp and let the start the process but I am a little unsure of the numbers that i have.

Akl 5.60 mg/l
CA 495 PPM
P.h 8.00
Ammonia .025
Nitrate is 5
nitrite 0
Salinity 1.025 (refractometer)

What do you all think?

A dead shrimp, right? Sounds like a good idea to boost the bacteria levels. Your params look good.

Re: Chris's 110 reef

Yes a dead shrimp. I do not think that it is needed to use a live fish or invert to cycle the tank. I think that I am 3 months away from adding anything

Re: Chris's 110 reef

I have started to develop very bright green algae. Looks like the end of a paint brush should I worry about this? what can I do to controll this? Is there a snail that is good for this?

Re: Chris's 110 reef

I just got the pump hooked up and I am happy with how it came out but I am having a problem with bubbles if I leave to little water in the return part of the sump I get bubbles but if I have to much does that defeat the point of having a bubble trap? I am getting bubbles from the water "falling over" the partition. it looks like the bubbles are only comming out of one of the returns does that mean that there is an air leak somewere?
