Re: Chris's 110 reef

to check for an air leak, and if you used PVC and glue, you can turn the pumps off and swab around each joint with glue to seal them again. ive done this and it works.

Re: Chris's 110 reef

everything is going fine right now. I just put in another 50 lbs of LR. This brings me up to about 140 pounds. I have not done anything with aquasacping yet, I am just going to let it cure for a while. Now my question, Is it normal for my water to be tinted green? I think that it is just part of the little alge bloom that I got going on. I order Poly-filters and am going to install a RO/DI this week so that is all that is going on. I do have to look at flow I am not getting as much as the overflow is rated at.

Re: Chris's 110 reef

Alright a little update. I thought that I had green water but that is not it. Just looking throug the glass end to end I picked up on a green hint. My water does have a yellow tint to it, I am pretty sure that it is just from the start up of the tank and i am not to worried right now. (I hope I am right) But a couple of questions. I think that I have a phosphate problem so I did order a reactor as well as poly-filters. I am waiting for my auto shut off to come for my ro/di unit (did not read the listing all the way through and had to order seeperate) should I just wait to do a water change till I get the valve or just keep doing what I am doing? has any body used a produt called Allgone? You just put the packet in the water flow and it helps clear up your water, I am using this could it be my problem with me yellow water? My skimmer is going crazy, I need to empty the cup everyday. Any ideas?

Re: Chris's 110 reef

the green tint, end to end,,,,is the glass. as for the yellowish tint, run some carbon for a few days and it will clear it right up.

Re: Chris's 110 reef

What is the best way to run carbon in a sump. I have a small basket on my skimmer but that does not seem like enough. What about in the filter sock that all the water from the tank flows through as it goes to the sump? is there a better way?

Re: Chris's 110 reef

You can place the carbon in a panty hose anywhere in your sump.. I place mine in strong water flow. It will work quickly, so remove it after a week. You don't have to use it constantly. I only use it periodically, when fragging or to polish the water.

Be sure to saok the carbon overnight in ro/di water, then rinse PRIOR to use! The pure water will help remove excess phosphates from the carbon.

Re: Chris's 110 reef

So many changes since my last update.... I need to get better here.

Ditched the bare bottom thing.. it worked fine but every time that i looked at the tank I thought that I was missing something. Got rid of my micro bubble thing, it was quite simple, actually three things were taking place. In my little giant pump there was two pcs of carbon stuck in the impeller that was chopping the water. Also I had my unions to tight and the were leaking air, and third is as the water would fall over the last baffle in the sump it would create a little air bubble, that could get pulled in the pump. I fixed this by putting a piece of poly filter in the baffles.

Right now in the tank is a PJ cardinal, a Hippo tang, a Fox face,True perc, a royal gramma, and a Crocea clam. The coral list is small, frogspawn, Torch, Candy cane. Some kind of semi open brain, and pineapple brain, two small zoa colonies, and a green mushroom rock.

Today arrives a Rose anemone and a clown fish (thanks Ilham) Thursday should bring another open brain (I love these)

I am going to order a jaw fish this weekend.

Lighting is two 250 watt MH (XM 10K bulbs should be here this week) along with 2 96 watt 10K PC and 2 96 watt Actinic.

That is all I can think of right now

Re: Chris's 110 reef

Good deal working out your issues!

NOTE: xm 10k bulbs are very, very intense. I recommend you create some sort of layers of screening (window screening or egg crates) between the bulbs and water's surface and slowly remove one layer a week for 3-4 weeks. Or... if you can raise your lights further away (12" more) from the waters surface then slowly lower them over a month's time...

Re: Chris's 110 reef

I need advice, my original plan was to go with 2 250 watt MH and supplement with 2 96 watt 10 k Pc and 2 96 watt actinic. Now I got the 10 k XM bulbs and I love them, I just want to ADD little blue. Should I got with all 4 actinic or just two. and anybody have any bulb recomendations?
