| Moderator ![]() | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. While we were in Indiana over the Christmas holidays the Cyano basicly took over our tank! What I want to do at this point is to start over with everything new. We are thinking of setting up a temperary tank for the two fish that we have left and tossing all the old LR and sand. Then and here is where I need your thoughts, we are thinking of filling the tank with either salt water or freshwater with a little bleach added and letting it run for a while. Then filling up the tank again with freshwater to help clean out all the pipes and other equiptment to make sure all the bleach water is out. I then want to order some of this Reef Bones that was talked about in another thread, add this to our tank let it cycle for a couple of weeks then purchase some LR to help seed the tank. Let everything run till our readings are in normal range then put our fish back in. I'm sick of dealing with this cyano! Obviously we didn't get rid of it earlier when we had the change over plus, with being gone it's everywhere! I am also going to be going back and forth to Indiana ( starting this month) alot to help take care of my father. He is in the final stages of cancer and has started chemo as a last ditch effort to try and give him a few more months to live so, I'm not going to be able to put in alot of time with trying to clean up this tank. It's just too much! I'm hoping that our idea will work, just start over! What do you guys think? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome! Thanks!! |

I just placed mine in the garage and topped it off once a week.... it did a LOT of shedding.. and it was dry base rock too!! I wish I lived closer..I would come get it..

| Moderator ![]() | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. Well, our tank is on it's final rinse after emptying everything out and giving it a good cleaning and disinfecting. We had to order a new seal for our Mag pump though and it just arrived today. I'm guessing that the bleach ruined the original seal. We have 80lbs of Reef Bones which I only like one of the pieces that came so, we are going to break the rest up and use for base rock. We will purchase some LR from the LFS to help seed the Reef Bones. We should have everything in by this weekend. Once the parameters looks stable we will add our 2 fish and new mushrooms that we got last weekend from ILC. Mark then wants to build a Refuge and get a Kalc reactor and we will incorporate our new 30g cube with our 75. I'm very excited to re-start our 75. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can come up with as far as aquascaping. We'll keep everyone posted with our progress. Here is a picture of our new mushroom rock. | Scopas Tang | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. Sorry to hear of your difficulties, but, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. It can be flustrating at times, and once you get to that special place the only solution left is what you did. The rebound sounds very interesting. good luck, and pic's as your system developes. best wishes for a speedy recovery from the cleaning process to you both. |

| Moderator ![]() | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. Today we are in the process of making water. I went out last night to the LFS and picked up 80lbs of LS. While the tank was dry, I went ahead and placed the 80lbs of Reef Bones that we purchased in the aquarium to see what I could come up with for scaping. I know I want some caves and valleys so, this is what I came up with after about an hour of moving the rock in different spots. Mark broke up one of the pieces and then I decided to keep the rest whole. The rock came in 4 pieces, 20lbs each. Can't say I was pleased with the shapes we got but, that's what we get for shopping sight unseen. I am going to be picking up more LR at the LFS to help seed this rock. I'll make sure to pick up some interesting pieces to add. We have an Aquatec Pressure Boost Pump attached to our RO/DI which helps make water a little faster than we normally could. I would say the tank will be filled either by late tonight or at least by sunday morning. Here are a few pics of how the rock looks for now. Last edited by Gina : 07-06-2006 at 07:14 PM. |

| Scopas Tang | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. looks like you are on your way. booster pump great move. my pressure is 42 lbs so i will most lilely incorporate one also on my system. Had one on the last system and it really helped with the quantity produced as you noticed. The booster pump also increases pressure so that the membranes work as designed to. looking good so far. |

| Moderator ![]() | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. After 2 days of making water, we finally got it filled last night. I have the Reef Bones placed in the position I want now, I need to get out to the LFS and pick up a few pieces of LR to help seed it. I've never used Reef Bones before so, I'm not sure as to what type of cycle there will be. I figured I would check the readings after a few days and see if anything is going on. I know once I add the LR I should see something? I do have 80lbs of LS in there and the skimmer is pulling out a small amount of gunk. More brown than green. |

| Moderator ![]() | Re: Gina and Mark's New 75 Gallon. I finally got off work today at a decent time and ran over to the LFS to pick up some LR. Here are the pieces all together now. Tell me honestly, what do you guys think of the aquascape job? Looks like we will be starting a cycle now too! I'm so excited!!! Last edited by Gina : 07-06-2006 at 07:14 PM. |
