Re: My New Tank

Sounds like a plan. I will give it a shot it is easy enough. I was thinking that these would be low and close to the water blowing cold air in and have another set of smaller fans at the top drawing hot air out. the problem is there is only the front and the one side to vent it unless I go through the wall. I would have put one on the top blowing out but venting through the upstairs floor isn't an option.

Re: My New Tank

Update time.

So a few things have been done since the last update. I installed the sequence and it rips. Too much. I have quite a microbubble problem due to passing that much water down 12 feet from the tank. I have it pretty much sorted but there are still more than I like.

I finally finished the hoods mechanical parts. No more blinding halide light when you walk by and casting the neighbors house in blue.

Added my orangespot rabbitfish and Copperband and they are doing great. The copperband is doing a number on apatasia except around where the clown has taken to the mushrooms.

The radiums are doing okay. I love the colors but they seem to have a little trouble staying lit. The 400 hqi's just require so many amps.

Got some small frags. One ORA frag that is not doing too hot but otherwise things are doing nicely. I have to make my ca reactor was going to get stuff this week.

Skimmer is still making a world of funk.

Here are some pics of the hood.

It is on 100lb sliders and pulls straight out from the front. It can go 24" out but I usually just pull it enough to get my head in there.

I still have to put the molding on the top. Will put crown molding on the top and probably do the bottom of the hood the same as the top of the stand.

Re: My New Tank

Thanks Doni, It took me forever to figure out how I wanted it. I have built a lot of swing up hoods for people. My last hood was hinged on the side. This one I hope solves most of my dislikes. It allows the whole front to be open for access and doesn't put the doors of the hood anywhere that will get in the way too much. Until I smack my head into it a few times.

Re: My New Tank

Cheeks not much exciting going on in the tank yet. Just some zoos lots of rock and a few miniscule frags and with the radiums it makes it real hard to get good pics.

Will start stocking the tank shortly. Once I get the calcium reator done.

Re: My New Tank

yeah he is my favorite, he changes to the coloration pictured when he is out swimming in the open. when next to the rocks he turns rust colored in between the orange spots. people think i am crazy when I tell them he is blue between the spots cause he keeps to the rocks alot when people he doesn't know are around the tank.

Re: My New Tank

I just read the whole thread and followed the whole saga!

Wow! Great job, Tommy!!! Looks awesome!!! If you ever need some Hairy Shrooms, let me know! I have a TON of them now! I have to frag some out since they are currently fighting the orange centered zoos I got from you originally (I believe) for rock space!

My Blue Shrooms and Red Shrooms have been pretty prolific as well!

Re: My New Tank

Hey thanks guys.

it is getting there.

things aren't so hot with the sps. I have added some large colonies due to local people getting out of the hobby offloading stuff and most have not faired well. I think I am having issues with keeping the alk stable. just have to tweek the calcium reactor. Didn't want to add sps so soon as I wanted to get everything really squared away.

I have to get my top off setup rigged up. I have been topping off by hand.
bought a 5/8" diamond drill so i can drill some tanks for Water change and top off. I tried drilling my 5.5 and ended up cracking it when I put the speed fit bulkhead. but I figured I would crack it anyway cause it is so thin. I was just drilling it for the hell of it anyway before I start on more expensive tanks.

Been dealing with some ICh too but it seems to be getting better.

CBB was getting thin so started feeding him a mussel everyday and he is fattening up nicely. i was previously feeding him mysis and that didn't seem to be doing the job. I think the CBB eat alot more than people think.
